The R.M. of St. Clements Heritage Committee (SCHC) was formed on July 28, 1998 to advise the R.M. of St.Clements council on how best to preserve and promote its rich and diverse heritage for the benefit of future generations.

SCHC is a volunteer group of approximately 10-12 members from all areas of the R.M.

Here are the credentials of the current members:

  • Fraser Stewart (chair): Professional Agrologist (retired), 40 years with the Manitoba Government and consulting agrologist, specialist in Extension Tech.
  • Sharon Moolchan: Social Studies coordinator for Lord Selkirk School Division, 30 years (retired)
  • Gerry Drobot: Business man in construction and transportation industry (retired)
  • Virginia Drobot
  • Nancy Lovenjak: Principal of Happy Thought School
  • Christine Stewart: Manager of libray services for Attorney General, province of Manitoba
  • Deanna Cameron: Grade 6 teacher at East Selkirk Middle School
  • Phoebe Thomas: Client services at Behavioural Health Foundation, Male Youth Services at Breezy Point Road, Selkirk
  • Donna Artimowich: Librarian with East Selkirk Middle School
  • Luise Avery: Business woman at Grand Beach, Manitoba
  • Tom Serger: Business manager and sales with Fort Distributors

SCHC meets monthly to discuss the progress of various projects, to develop responses to current heritage issues and to discuss ideas for new initiatives. SCHC works with the Historic Resources Branch of Manitoba Culture, Heritage and Tourism, to ensure that projects and plans reflect the most current thinking about heritage, and especially heritage management.

From time to time, SCHC hires people to complete special projects:

  • Jared Laberge: summer student helped develop the St. Clements 125th Geocaching project and the Lord Selkirk School Division Historic Curriculum Enhancement (PowerPoint Presentations)
  • Donna Sutherland:professional historian developed several articles for the website
  • Roberta Anderson: web designer assisting with continued development of the website
  • Claire McCaffrey: summer student developed displays for the Heritage Village and completed interviews for the Oral history project.

Members Wanted
